We have just released a couple of weeks of special pre christmas rates starting from next week - we are offering £10 discount per night. Our last pre xmas booking is 22nd December to depart on 23rd.
We will reopen on 28th. Chatsworth is open excl 1st jan until 3rd January when the house & gardens close until March. So if you have time off over Xmas /New Year- how better to enjoy it than fresh air, open spaces and relaxing in front of out log fire !
So December is upon us, its time to think of Christmas trees, mulled wine & mince pies - anything but christmas shopping !
We woke up to snow a week or two ago - just a light sprinkling and frost which was lovely. We chose to take gnasher walk from Edensor to Chatworth in the early morning and walked into the Christmas market as the stall holders were preparing for the weekend ahead. There is enjoyable walking behind Chatsworth and the wintertime for me, is when we enjoy it most , particularly on frosty December mornings. We like to walk up to towards the Hunting Lodge ( quick rest sat on a canon and enjoying the view. We follow the rear path towards the Emperor Lake following the Chatsworth side till arriving at the sluice gates. From here look the the trees towards the house direction and follow a pathway through the trees - bringing you to a main path cross over and you will see a waterfall dropping down to a viaduct/ canal carrying the water that feeds the impressive Emperor Fountain in Chatsworth Gardens. From here you can choose from a number of pathways back down the hillside through the trees, between rock formations etc , its lovely.
During December at weekends there are usually carol singers and a brass band in the Stables Courtyard and hearing them in the distance in the cold early morning air is lovely. You can finish off with a mulled wine and hot pork sandwich in the stables courtyard. A morning like this provokes more christmas spirit than any amount of christmas shopping !
